This jewelry piece is inspired by the pomegranate, renowned as the “King of Fruits” and a symbol in various religions and cultures. Goychay, located in the Shirvan Valley, is a leading hub for pomegranate cultivation in Azerbaijan. Established in the 15th century for settlers relocating from Garaman Baylarbaylik (present-day Turkey), the city also welcomed those displaced by the 19th-century Shamakhi earthquake. Goychay, meaning ‘blue river,’ reflects the clarity of the river that flows through it. With a climate and soil ideal for cultivation, pomegranates have been a key income source for the locals over the centuries. All known pomegranate varieties are grown here, and the “Pomegranate Festival,” celebrating the region’s long-standing pomegranate heritage, is an annual highlight during the harvest.
