Lachin is a city in western Azerbaijan, located in a mountainous area between the regions of Karabakh and Armenia. Element of “Gasim-ushaghi”, a famous type of carpets widely woven in the Lachin region of upper Garabagh. The Memorial Museum of Sari Ashiq of the bayati (a variety of Azerbaijani folk poetry) was opened in the Gulabird village of Lachin region. As a result of the occupation of the Lachin region by the Armenian Armed Forces in 1992, the museum building and nearly 200 exhibits were destroyed and plundered. Symbolic representation of Lachin embodied in its coat of arms – a falcon. Azerbaijani traditional dances, an integral aspect of Azerbaijani culture. Azerbaijani folk dance expresses symbolically a wide variety of emotional themes, ranging from hospitality and generosity to friendship and unity of people; from the high spirits of young girls to the courage of young men, to the expression of simple joie de vivre. Lachin was occupied by Armenian forces in 1992 during the First Karabakh War and remained under occupation for nearly three decades. On December 1, 2020, it was peacefully returned to Azerbaijan under the trilateral ceasefire agreement signed after the Second Karabakh War. Today, Lachin is undergoing active reconstruction and resettlement as part of Azerbaijan’s broader efforts to restore liberated territories.
