Chalabi

This piece draws its inspiration from the central medallion of Chelebi carpets, a unique product of the Garabakh carpet school in Azerbaijan. These carpets feature a captivating medallion at their center. Aside from the Chelebis, this design is also present in Barjid carpets from South Azerbaijan and is rare elsewhere in the Orient. The medallion is believed to depict a double-headed bird that guards Paradise, as per oriental mythology. The cruciform at its center symbolizes the four primal elements: earth, water, air, and fire.
