Aypara
This item draws inspiration from “Aypara,” the crescent—one of humanity’s oldest symbols. Alongside the sun, it was depicted in Akkadian and Sumerian art. The crescent and star also adorned pre-Islamic South Arabian coins. Prior to Islam, the crescent symbolized the Sassanids. Since the 12th century, the Turks and Ottomans adopted the crescent and star as their historic emblem. Turkic nations like the Göktürks featured this symbol on their coins. The crescent and star appear on Azerbaijan’s flag and often inspire antique Azerbaijani jewellery.
