Aypara

This piece draws inspiration from “Aypara,” the crescent—one of the oldest symbols known to humanity. Alongside the sun, it appeared in Akkadian and Sumerian imagery. The crescent and star also featured on pre-Islamic coins from South Arabia. Before Islam, the crescent symbolized the Sassanids. Since the 12th century, the Turks and Ottomans have embraced the crescent and star as their emblematic symbol. Turkic nations, such as the Göktürks, used this motif on their coins. The crescent and star are present on the Azerbaijani flag and have often inspired antique Azerbaijani jewelry.
