Beylagan
The production of glazed and unglazed pottery flourished in Azerbaijan from the 9th to 13th centuries. Arabic inscriptions were engraved on the pottery, depicting images of horses, camels, gazelles, hares, francolins, as well as geometric and botanical motifs. These items were found during archaeological excavations in Beylagan and Gabala. One notably unique piece is a green, basket-shaped glazed plate.
The lower sections of these plates often display seals from various master workshops and sometimes artisan workshops. For instance, a household pot uncovered during excavations bears the Arabic words “made by Ali,” alongside mosque design elements. Additionally, the names of craftsmen Badal and Sadulla appear on two elegantly designed plates discovered in Beylagan.
