This piece draws inspiration from the floral motifs found in the border patterns of Fyndyghan carpets. Originally woven in the village of Fyndyghan, these carpets are also favored in other villages surrounding Baku. Unique to Fyndyghan carpets are their two core border strips, unlike the usual single strip. These borders feature floral designs and “S” symbols, which are believed to represent the flowing movement of water, symbolizing a refined and settled lifestyle, or alternatively, fertility and immortality. The core border in Fyndyghans is an ancient symbol, with four arcs thought to represent the four corners of the world.
