Mingachevir
This piece draws inspiration from carvings on a 7th-century stone column discovered in Mingechevir. The column features two peacocks flanking a holy tree. Even though Mingechevir is a relatively new city, its area is among the oldest inhabited regions in Azerbaijan. Historical sources indicate a significant battle between the Roman warlord Pompey and the Albanian Tsar Oris occurred here in the 1st century BC. The ancient Silk Roads are also believed to have traversed this region. Today, Mingechevir is a prominent industrial hub in Azerbaijan, home to the largest reservoir in the Caucasus, a series of water power stations, and the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Station, the main thermal energy supplier for the country.
