Mughan
This design is inspired by Mughan carpets, which combine elements from various regions of Azerbaijan, situated between the Kura and Araz rivers, including Sabirabad, Jalilabad, Saatli, and Bilasuvar. The central feature of these ornaments is the ‘kehna pattern,’ a hooked element representing a 12-year cycle. In ancient Turkish calendars, time was counted not only in days and months but also in 12-year intervals, each linked to a specific animal (constellation). Notably, the renowned Netherlands artist Hans Memling (1438–1494) incorporated Mughan-style carpets in his paintings. Mughan carpets are displayed in numerous museums worldwide.
