Salyan
The Salyan carpet’s main elements served as the primary inspiration for this jewelry model. Originating from the Shirvan group of Guba-Shirvan carpet-making, the Salyan carpet boasts a rich and ancient history. Typically, these carpets feature two mythical birds and a central medallion surrounded by large octagonal patterns. Beyond symbolizing beauty, the birds are traditionally believed to have a cosmic connection to the sun. The city of Salyan was established on the remains of a city founded at the Kura River estuary in the early 14th century and is now the hub of Azerbaijan’s fishing industry. Reflecting this heritage, the Salyan jewelry pieces in our collection feature designs of two fish and waves symbolizing the Kura River.
