This design draws inspiration from the Zakatala medallion, traditionally featured on long rugs. Zakatala, also known as Zakataly, is a collection of villages located about 75 miles north of Ganja in the central Caucasus. Due to its location, motifs from the Zakatala district bear similarities to those of Qazakh, sharing common elements. They’re classified separately, however, as they appear on 19th and early 20th-century rugs only recently introduced to the Western market. In addition to the motifs highlighted here, Zakatala rugs include Lesghi stars, Memling guls, and the Fachralo medallion.
