Three Apples

I spent a lot of time with my grandma, whom we affectionately called “ana,” meaning mama in Azerbaijani. Especially during the summer holidays, I cherished our time at the village. We had a tradition: at bedtime, we would enjoy country tandir bread and yogurt while listening to my grandma’s enchanting fairytales about divs (ogres), dragons, fairies, pehlivans, and more. These tales always concluded with the traditional saying, “Three apples fell from above—one for me, the second for the storyteller, and the third for myself.”

This saying has inspired the design of these earrings, dedicated to my grandmother and grandmothers everywhere.
