Aghstafa
This model was inspired by elements of the Aghstapha carpets. These carpets are presented as Ganja or Caucasian carpets in foreign sources, while local researchers call them ‘Shadili’ after a village where this type of carpets was first woven. The main occupation of Shadili tribes used to be sheep and cattle farming, and so carpetmaking in wool was well developed here. Zoomorphic elements are depicted in the complex compositions of the Aghstapha carpets. The symmetrical, mirror-image ornaments, shaped in a form of horn and colourful birds, are commonly found on carpets from this region.
