Apollo – Butterfly
The Apollo butterfly is a striking and rare species of butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. It is native to mountainous regions across Europe and parts of Central Asia, typically found in alpine meadows, rocky hillsides, and sunny slopes. It inhabits the forest edges of Topkhana, the surroundings of Lake Gok-Gol, the southern slopes of the Daralayaz and Zangezur mountain ranges, and the slopes of the Greater Caucasus (Zaqatala, Balakan, and Qakh). The Apollo butterfly is protected in many countries due to habitat loss, climate change, and human activity and it is listed as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List in some regions. This beautiful butterfly is not only a symbol of alpine biodiversity but also an important indicator Of environmental health in mountainous ecosystems.
