Baku
This model draws inspiration from ancient Baku’s iconic symbols: the two lions and an ox depicted on the ‘Gosha Gala Gapilari’ (‘Twin Castle Gates’) at the old city’s main entrance. The ox symbolizes the ancient city, while the lions signify the protection offered by the castle walls, both day and night.
Adorned with ‘Buta of Baku’ motifs, resembling the butas or paisley designs found on carpets woven in Baku, this piece showcases a popular eastern design emblematic of carpets from mountainous areas. The ‘Buta of Baku’ is thought to symbolize fire and eternity, despite varying interpretations of its meaning.
Another version of this model is inspired by the Shirvanshah Palace, located in the Icheri Sheher Historical-Architectural Reserve, in the heart of old Baku.
