This piece draws inspiration from the ancient symbols of Baku: the two lions and the ox depicted on the arch of the ‘Gosha Gala Gapilari’ (‘Twin Castle Gates’) at the old city’s main entrance. The ox represents the ancient city, while the lions portray the castle walls’ protection day and night. Additionally, the butas or paisley motifs, known as ‘Buta of Baku,’ featured in this design, are reminiscent of those found on carpets woven in Baku. This widespread eastern design element is typical of carpets from mountainous regions. While its symbolism is debated, the ‘Buta of Baku’ is believed to symbolize fire and eternity. Another version of this model reflects the Shirvanshah Palace within the Icheri Sheher Historical-Architectural Reserve in the old city of Baku.
