From the 9th to the 13th centuries, Azerbaijan was renowned for its advanced pottery production, both glazed and unglazed. Short texts in the Arabic alphabet were engraved on these pieces, which featured images of horses, camels, gazelles, hares, francolins, along with geometric and botanical designs. These artifacts were uncovered in archaeological digs in Beylagan and Gabala. One distinctive piece is a green, basket-shaped glazed plate.

The lower sections of these plates often display seals from various masters’ workshops or artisan studios. For instance, the phrase “made by Ali” in Arabic, accompanied by mosque design elements, was found on the top of a household pot during excavations. Additionally, the names of two craftsmen, Badal and Sadulla, were engraved on two elegantly crafted plates unearthed in Beylagan.
