This region is often called the cradle of civilization, home to the Azykh Cave, which dates back 1.2 million years and is associated with the Guruchay culture—recognized worldwide as one of the earliest cultural centers. In 1968, archaeologists discovered a Neanderthal-like jawbone in the cave, estimated to be over 350,000 years old and attributed to Azykhantrop, one of the five oldest proto-human remains found globally. The elements used in this jewelry was inspired by the attributes related to this particular region. The ancient monuments of Garakopektepe, Gunashtapa, and Garabulag in Fuzuli further reflect the region’s deep cultural roots. Fuzuli is also renowned for its carpet-weaving traditions, including the world-famous “Bahmanli,” “Buynuzlu,” and “Goradiz” carpets. Founded as Garabulag in 1827, later known as Garyageen, the town was renamed Fuzuli in 1959 in honor of the 400th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mohammad Fuzuli.Among its historic landmarks is the Sheikh Babi Yagub Mausoleum (1272–1274), built by architect Ali Majidaddin in Babi village for the ascetic Sheikh Babi Yagub ibn Ismail Qur Khar, an influential figure in the Isma’ilism movement. Nearby, in Aghdam’s Khachin Turbatli village, stands the Mausoleum of Gutlu Musa (1314), a remarkable monument of the Ilkhanid period. This dodecahedral tomb, crowned with a pyramidal roof and raised on a three-tiered base, exemplifies the distinctive stone architecture of the early 14th century between the Kur and Araz rivers.
