Garagoyunlu
This piece features ornamental elements inspired by Garagoyunlu carpets from the Ganja-Gazakh school, named after the “Black Sheep” Turkic tribe. These rugs showcase diverse compositions, often with smaller “lakes” with hooked edges on the middle ground, interspersed with symmetrically arranged animal head images. Carpet experts have varying interpretations of these heads, ranging from two-headed dragons to ducks. Some believe the ornament is divided into three parts symbolizing different realms: this world in the middle, heaven above, and the underworld below. In this interpretation, the two birds in the middle may represent a man and a woman as foundational elements.
