For centuries, Gazakh and its surrounding villages have been a hub of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan. Carpets from the Gazakh school, known for their distinctive ornaments, have attracted foreign buyers and earned prestigious placements in renowned museums worldwide, including the Berlin Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Hermitage, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Budapest Art Museum. This jewelry piece draws inspiration from the ‘Aghajly’ carpet of Shikhly, a part of the Gazakh carpet-weaving tradition. Shikhly carpets are regarded as quintessential representations of Azerbaijani folk art. The elongated element in the center resembles a cypress tree, a symbol considered sacred in the Middle East, including Azerbaijan.
