Winged Islimi
Inspired by a variation of the islimi ornament, the Ganadli Islimi (Winged Islimi) pendant beautifully captures this intricate design. Islimi, a favored Islamic decorative theme, is often depicted as a split leaf known as “arabesque” or “tendril.” Originating from a Sassanian motif, it evolved under the Abbasids in the ninth and tenth centuries and reached maturity under the Seljuks in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. After the fifteenth century, it became particularly popular in eastern village rugs. In Azerbaijan, islimi remains a cherished ornament.
