This model is inspired by the popular margin pattern commonly found in Pirebedil (Shirvan), Göllu-Chichi (Quba), and several other carpets. Known as the Kufesque margin, early iterations of this design can be seen in fourteenth-century rugs. These patterns are closely related to decorations featuring Kufic script, the oldest calligraphic form of Arabic. The Kufic script was prominent in manuscripts from the 8th to 10th centuries and was often used for arch inscriptions in mosques during the early Mongol period.
