The ornament depicted in this model has been inspired by the universal border motif known as Laley-Abbasi (Abbasi tulip) named after Shah Abbas, the greatest ruler of the Safavid dynasty. This motif, also referred to as “Madahil” (doorways) or scepter head, is often found in Persian and Talysh carpets.
