Laley-Abbasi
This design draws inspiration from the universal border motif known as Laley-Abbasi (the Abbasi tulip), named after Shah Abbas, the prominent ruler of the Safavid dynasty. Also referred to as “Madahil” (doorways) or scepter head, this motif is frequently seen in Persian and Talysh carpets. The border is reciprocal, meaning each part of the motif shares the same shape, allowing two units to fit together seamlessly. Either part can be perceived as the subject or background.
