This model is infused with characteristic elements of southern Azerbaijan. A prominent feature is the Crab ornament, central to the Talysh carpet design. Lankaran, referenced by ancient Greek historian Herodotus, is derived from Persian, meaning ‘an anchorage.’ Historically, Lankaran was a pivotal trading port in Azerbaijani territory. Since 1743, it has been part of the Talysh khanate, along with Masally, Lerik, and other areas. Archaeological excavations uncovered several ancient monuments there, including a sword symbolizing masculinity, which is featured in this model. The region’s favorable climate and fertile soil have made it a hub for subtropical plants and fruits, represented by lemons and tea leaves in the design. Additionally, the Hyrcan reserve in Lankaran is home to the unique ironwood tree, which is also depicted in this model.
