Nakhchivan
The design is inspired by the ‘Shadda’ pileless carpets woven in Nakhchivan. Renowned in myths as Noah’s ark’s first resting place, Nakhchivan has long been celebrated for its decorative and applied arts. Cities like Nakhchivan, Ordubad, and Julfa have been weaving centers for both piled and pileless carpets made of wool and silk for centuries. Situated along the historic Silk Road, the city constructed towers to protect both its residents and passing merchants from bandits. Positioned at the crossroads of trade routes, the local community developed a distinctive culture, evident in the ornaments of Nakhchivan carpets. The design also incorporates motifs from domestic items uncovered in Nakhchivan archaeological excavations. Another Nakhchivan design draws inspiration from the ornaments of the Momine Khatun Mausoleum, crafted by the celebrated medieval architect Ajami Nakhchivani.
