Shamakhy

This model reflects the ancient traditions and cultural essence of Shamakhi, notably its celebrated castle walls. The name Shamakhi first appeared in the works of the ancient Greek geographer Ptolemy. Situated at the crossroads of trade routes, the city endured repeated enemy attacks, leading to the construction of protective castle walls. The vine and jug motifs symbolize Shamakhi’s longstanding viticulture, as its climate has long favored the wine industry. Additionally, Shamakhi has been renowned since ancient times as a prominent carpet-making center in Azerbaijan. The Shamakhi carpet, part of the Shirvan carpet-making school, is distinguished by unique ornaments and vibrant, intricate compositions. The rhombus, frequently featured in these carpets, is a religious symbol that can represent the earth, femininity, or a fruitful beginning, depending on its placement.
