Shamkir

This model draws inspiration from patterns engraved on earthenware unearthed near Shamkir, dating back to the 15th century BC. Recognized as early as the 5th century AD, the city was a hub of trade and craftsmanship in ancient Arran, now part of Azerbaijan. Although Shamkir was repeatedly destroyed and renamed, the Azerbaijani government restored its historic name after regaining independence. The craftsmanship examples from Shamkir vividly illustrate the culture, daily life, and worldview of ancient people who resided in Azerbaijani territories. These artifacts are believed to reflect special ceremonies or religious rituals: deer antlers symbolize power, a swastika represents the sun, a wheel implies infinity, and spiral lines denote eternity, time, and immortality.
