Zangazur
This piece is inspired by the intricate engravings on stone found in the Urud Monument Complex, located in the Garakilsa region of Zangazur Mahal, historically Azerbaijani-Turkish territory. The complex features Urud Castle, distinct gravestones in the Urud graveyard, and other significant monuments. These structures, with their exquisite artistic designs, reflect the beliefs of the ancient inhabitants of Zangazur. Urud Castle, perched on a sheer cliff, is bordered by the river Bazarchay on three sides and castle walls on the fourth. Locals claim there’s a secret underground path leading to the river. Sadly, after Armenians settled in the Zangazur area, the Urud complex’s name was altered, parts were destroyed, and many ancient inscriptions were modified or erased.
