Katabali
This design draws inspiration from the “Kataba” pattern. “Kataba” is the plural form of the Arabic word “katib,” used for a private secretary. In carpet terminology, Kataba refers to a medallion with a cylindrical or elongated shape, reminiscent of the “Göl” (lake) pattern. When the borders, especially the center, feature Kataba ornamentation, they are termed Katabali. If a carpet’s large area is adorned with various Kataba, it is referred to as Kataba-bandlik. Sometimes, the names of the master, painter, or client were inscribed on the Kataba.
