Mingachevir
This piece is inspired by the carvings on a 7th-century stone column discovered in Mingechevir. The column features two peacocks and a sacred tree. Although Mingechevir is a relatively new city, the area is among the oldest inhabited regions of Azerbaijan. Historical records suggest that the famous battle between Roman general Pompey and Oris, the Albanian tsar, occurred here in the 1st century BC. The ancient Silk Road is also believed to have passed through Mingechevir. Today, it stands as one of Azerbaijan’s key industrial centers, home to the largest reservoir in the Caucasus and the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Station, the country’s main thermal energy provider.
