This jewellery piece is inspired by the ‘Shadda’ pileless carpets woven in Nakhchivan. This region, mythically known as the first rest for Noah’s ark, has been renowned for its decorative arts since ancient times. Cities like Nakhchivan, Ordubad, and Julpha have been hubs for weaving wool and silk carpets, both piled and pileless, over centuries. As a stop along the Silk Road, the area erected towers to protect the city and merchants from robbers and marauders. Positioned at trade route crossroads, the local population developed a distinctive culture, mirrored in the ornate patterns of Nakhchivan carpets. Additionally, this piece incorporates motifs from domestic ware unearthed during archaeological excavations in Nakhchivan. Ornaments from the Momine Khatun Mausoleum, crafted by medieval architect Ajami Nakhchivani, have inspired a second Nakhchivan model.
