Pomegranate

The pomegranate is a powerful ancient symbol rich in meaning across various traditions and major religions. In Judaism, it signifies righteousness, as it’s believed to have 613 seeds, representing the 613 mitzvot, or commandments, of the Torah. The pomegranate also symbolizes fruitfulness, knowledge, and wisdom. In Christianity, it represents resurrection and the hope of eternal life. In Chinese culture, pomegranates symbolize fertility due to their abundance of seeds. The Qur’an also references pomegranates, with legends claiming each contains a seed (aril) from paradise. Like many applied arts, pomegranates are depicted in carpets throughout Asia and the Middle East, symbolizing fertility.
