Poetic Buta
This bracelet is inspired by one of the variations of the renowned buta motif, known as govushmush buta (paired buta). The buta is an ancient and cherished oriental design, likely derived from the Persian word “boteh,” meaning a shrub resembling a thistle. The British found the buta motif so captivating that they adopted it from India and reproduced it in their textiles. Consequently, it became known in the West as the Paisley pattern, named after a Scottish town famous for these fabrics.
The buta provides a fascinating example of how a simple idea can be interpreted in diverse ways across cultures. Its meaning varies, from pine cone to palm crown to flame, each carrying religious significance as symbols of immanence and eternal life. Therefore, gifting someone an item adorned with buta is akin to wishing them a long life and enduring memory.
