Three Apples
I often spent time with my grandma, lovingly called “ana,” meaning mama in Azerbaijani, especially during summer holidays in the village. We cherished a bedtime tradition of enjoying country tandir bread with yogurt while listening to her enchanting fairy tales. These stories of divs (ogres), dragons, fairies, and pehlivans would all conclude with the same timeless saying: “Three apples fell from above – one for me, another for the storyteller, and the third for myself.”
This brooch’s design beautifully echoes that cherished saying, paying tribute to my grandmother and all grandmothers.
