Chalabi
This piece draws inspiration from the central medallion of Chelebi carpets from the Garabakh carpet school in Azerbaijan. These carpets boast a truly unique design, featuring a captivating, mysterious medallion at the center. Beyond the Chelebis, this design is also seen in Barjid carpets of South Azerbaijan and is rarely found elsewhere in the Orient. The medallion is said to depict a double-headed bird, believed in oriental mythology to guard Paradise. At the center of the medallion is a cruciform, symbolizing the four primal elements: earth, water, air, and fire.
