Fantastic Birds

This piece is inspired by geometric motifs of fantastic birds and the curvilinear designs of islimi. Fantastic birds symbolize protection and, in some interpretations, immortality. They often appear as filler or border motifs in oriental carpets. Islimi, a beloved Islamic decorative theme, features a design known as “islimi,” also referred to as “arabesque” or “tendril.” It is a popular ornamentation in Azerbaijan.
