Lankaran
This model, inspired by southern Azerbaijan, showcases several regional elements, including the Crab ornament commonly featured in Talysh carpets. Lankaran, a name referenced by ancient Greek historian Herodotus, is generally translated from Persian as ‘an anchorage’. Historically, Lankaran has served as Azerbaijani’s premier trading port since ancient times. In 1743, it was incorporated into the Talysh khanate along with Masally, Lerik, and surrounding areas. Archaeological excavations in the region have uncovered several ancient monuments, including a sword that symbolizes masculinity, a detail reflected in this design. Thanks to its favorable climate and fertile soil, the Talysh region exports subtropical plants and fruits, symbolized here by lemons and tea leaves. Additionally, the model features the unique ironwood tree from the Hyrcan Reserve within Lankaran’s borders.
