These items are inspired by geometric motifs (fantastic birds) and curvilinear designs (islimi). Fantastic birds symbolize protection and, in some interpretations, immortality. Islimi, a beloved Islamic decorative theme, features a split leaf design known as “islimi,” also referred to as “arabesque” or “tendril.” It is one of the most popular ornaments in Azerbaijan.
