Kufesque
This piece draws inspiration from the popular margin pattern commonly found in Pirebedil (Shirvan), Göllu-Chichi (Quba), and other carpets. Known as the Kufesque margin, its early designs can be traced back to fourteenth-century rugs with patterns similar to those featuring Kufic script, the oldest form of Arabic calligraphy. Kufic script was prominent in 8th-10th century manuscripts and was used in arch inscriptions in mosques during the early Mongol period.
