Pomegranate

The pomegranate is a prominent symbol across many ancient cultures and religions. Known for its rich symbolism, this remarkable fruit appears in various traditions. In Judaism, the pomegranate symbolizes righteousness and is believed to contain 613 seeds, corresponding to the 613 mitzvot, or commandments, of the Torah. It also signifies fruitfulness, knowledge, and wisdom. In Christianity, the pomegranate represents resurrection and the hope of eternal life. In Chinese culture, due to its abundance of seeds, the pomegranate is a symbol of fertility. The Qur’an mentions pomegranates several times, with a legend claiming each pomegranate holds a seed (aril) from paradise. Across Asia and the Middle East, the pomegranate frequently appears in carpet designs, symbolizing fertility, as in many other applied arts.
