Shamkir
This design draws inspiration from patterns engraved on ancient earthenware unearthed near Shamkir, dating back to the 15th century BC. The city, known since the 5th century AD, was a thriving trade and craftsmanship hub in the ancient Arran region, now part of Azerbaijan. Though repeatedly devastated and renamed, the city reclaimed its historic name after Azerbaijan regained independence. Craftsmanship unearthed in Shamkir vividly illustrates the culture, daily life, and worldview of the ancient inhabitants of Azerbaijani lands. These artifacts likely represented special ceremonies or religious rituals: deer antlers symbolize power, a swastika denotes the sun, a wheel suggests infinity, and spiral lines signify eternity, time, and immortality.
