Pottery production flourished in Azerbaijan from the 9th to the 13th centuries, with both glazed and unglazed pieces. Arabic inscriptions were intricately engraved on the pottery, while images of horses, camels, gazelles, hares, francolins, along with geometric and botanical designs, adorned pieces unearthed in archaeological sites in Beylagan and Gabala. Among these, a distinct green, basket-shaped glazed plate stands out. The lower parts of such plates frequently display seals from various master artisans’ workshops. For instance, the phrase ‘made by Ali’ in Arabic, alongside mosque design elements, was discovered on a pot in an excavation. Additionally, the names of craftsmen Badal and Sadulla were elegantly engraved on two plates found in Beylagan.
