Gazakh
For centuries, Gazakh and its surrounding villages have been prominent centers of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan. The unique designs of Gazakh school carpets have attracted international buyers and earned spots in renowned museums worldwide, including the Berlin Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Hermitage, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Budapest Art Museum. This particular piece draws inspiration from the ‘Aghajly’ carpet from Shikhly, a distinguished example of the Gazakh carpet-weaving tradition, and a quintessential representation of Azerbaijani folk art. The elongated motif in the center resembles a cypress tree, which is considered sacred in the Middle East, including Azerbaijan.
